All users and friends of Torriano Meeting House are invited to a meeting on Thursday 28 August, 6pm to discuss the terms of the new lease from Camden Council. Presently the rent is £10,000 per annum. Camden would like to raise this to £12,750 per annum.
To quote the Council valuer: “I realise that this is a large increase for your organisation but the council holds commercial properties primarily as an investment to generate an income to help finance other services provided by the Council. Under legislation (The Local Government Act 1972) local authorities are required to obtain best consideration when dealing with their property assets and Property Services only has authority to let at market rents which ensures that there are no hidden subsidies to any business and that the Council can show it is maximising its assets.”
I’d like to underline one quote from that message: ‘ there are no hidden subsidies to any business’. The Torriano Meeting House is NOT a business. I shall try to be there.
